Position Is Information
The button is the best seat because you act after everyone else once the flop is dealt. Every check, bet, hesitation, and raise gives you information before you make your own decision.
What Position Lets You Do
- Bluff more efficiently when opponents show weakness
- Control pot size with marginal hands
- Value bet thinner when checked to
- Take free cards with draws
- Avoid expensive guesses out of position
Button Strategy
On the button, you can open more suited connectors, suited aces, broadways, and small pairs because you will usually have the easiest postflop decisions.
That does not mean “play everything.” It means your borderline hands become more profitable when you have last action.
Event Tip
At a casino party, explain the button early. Once guests understand why the dealer disc moves, the whole table starts to understand the rhythm of poker.
